Fire Risk2013 Taurus + Police Interceptor (and others)Ford Safety Recall 13S04 / 13S04-S1
Fuel Delivery Module May Crack — Fuel Leak Fire Risk
On certain 2013 Ford Taurus, Taurus Police Interceptor, Explorer, Explorer Police Utility, Flex, Fusion, Police Interceptor Sedan, and Lincoln MKS, MKT, and MKZ vehicles, the fuel delivery module may develop a crack, allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source (hot engine or exhaust components) may result in a fire. The recall began July 20, 2013 (13S04) and was supplemented December 21, 2015 (13S04-S1) to expand the affected population to additional 2013 model year vehicles where the original repair did not cover all affected modules. This recall is particularly significant for police fleet operators because the higher-mileage and higher-stress patrol use of Police Interceptor variants makes proper fuel delivery module integrity critical.
Dealers replace the fuel delivery module, free of charge. Original recall began July 20, 2013; supplement 13S04-S1 began December 21, 2015.

Handling Risk — Police/SHO2013–2018 Taurus Police Interceptor / SHOFord Safety Recall 20S04
Rear Suspension Toe Links May Fracture — Sudden Change in Vehicle Handling
On certain 2013–2018 Ford Taurus vehicles equipped with the Police Interceptor or SHO Performance Pack (along with same-pack Lincoln MKT and Ford Flex), the rear suspension toe links may fracture due to stress on the rear suspension. The Police Interceptor Sedan is engineered for the high-stress, high-mileage demands of police patrol use including pursuit driving, frequent hard cornering, curb impacts, and continuous duty cycles — conditions that exceed normal civilian vehicle stress profiles. A fractured rear toe link will cause a sudden change in vehicle handling and substantially increases the risk of a crash, particularly during emergency pursuit operations or evasive maneuvers. The SHO Performance Pack vehicles, while civilian-owned, share the same heavy-duty suspension components as the Police Interceptor and are equally affected.
Dealers replace the rear suspension toe links, free of charge. Owners were notified about the recall on March 3, 2020. Recall began October 28, 2020 once remedy parts became available. Police fleet customers should request batch scheduling to minimize patrol downtime.

Engine Stall Risk2013–2015 Taurus + Police Interceptor (3.5L EcoBoost)Ford Safety Recall 16S31
Fuel Pump Electric Module May Overheat — Loss of Electrical Power to Fuel Pump
On certain 2013–2015 Ford Taurus, Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI EcoBoost engines (along with 2013–2015 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor), a component within the fuel pump electric module (PEM) may overheat, causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump. Loss of fuel pump electrical power results in engine stall, which substantially increases the risk of a crash — particularly serious for the Police Interceptor variants where engine stall during pursuit operations could be catastrophic. The 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 used in the SHO civilian variant and Police Interceptor Performance Pack is a high-output engine where fuel pump reliability is critical.
Dealers inspect the fuel PEM part number and replace the fuel PEM as necessary, free of charge. Recall began December 1, 2016.

Side-Impact Injury Risk2010–2013 Taurus + 2011–2013 MKSFord Safety Recall 15S02
Interior Door Handle Return Spring May Unseat — Door May Unlatch in Side-Impact Crash
On certain 2010–2013 Ford Taurus vehicles built December 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 (along with 2011–2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles built June 1, 2011 to October 31, 2011), the interior door handle return spring may unseat. This results in an interior door handle that does not return to the fully stowed position after actuation. If the spring is unseated, the door may unlatch in the event of a side impact crash, increasing the risk of personal injury or ejection. Unlatching during side impact is particularly dangerous because side impacts already deliver concentrated force to the occupant's side; door retention is a critical safety function during these events.
Dealers inspect all four interior door handles and either repair or replace them, free of charge. Recall began March 16, 2015.

Compliance — FMVSS 1142017–2018 Taurus (mechanical key)Ford Safety Recall 18C02
Key May Be Removed When Transmission Not in PARK — Rollaway Risk (FMVSS 114)
On certain 2017–2018 Ford Taurus vehicles equipped with mechanical key ignition systems (rather than push-button start), the keys may be able to be removed from the ignition when the transmission is not in the PARK position. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 114 "Theft Protection." If the driver removes the key while the transmission is in any gear other than Park (such as Drive or Reverse), the driver may believe the vehicle is safely parked when in fact the vehicle could roll away — potentially striking and injuring the driver, occupants, or bystanders. This is particularly relevant for fleet customers and police departments that often retain mechanical key ignition systems for their patrol vehicles.
Dealers replace the shifter assembly, free of charge. Recall began May 11, 2018.

Heat Shield Risk2017 Taurus + Police Interceptor + ExplorerFord Safety Recall (Steering Gear Heat Shield)
Steering Gear Heat Shield Fasteners May Corrode — Heat Shield May Detach
On certain 2017 Ford Taurus, Taurus Police Interceptor Sedan, Explorer, and Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, the steering gear heat shield fasteners may corrode, allowing the heat shield to detach. The heat shield protects the steering gear assembly from exhaust heat — loss of the heat shield exposes steering components to elevated temperatures that can damage steering hoses, sensors, and the steering gear itself. A detached heat shield can also become a road hazard for following vehicles. The Mississippi Gulf Coast humid environment accelerates corrosion of fasteners exposed to road salt, brake dust, and constant moisture cycling.
Dealers inspect and replace the heat shield fasteners as needed, free of charge.

Visibility Risk2015–2019 Taurus (and many others)Ford Safety Recall 25SA9
Rearview Camera May Display Distorted, Intermittent, or Blank Image
On certain 2015–2019 Ford Flex, 2015 Explorer, Lincoln MKT, Lincoln MKZ, 2015–2016 C-Max, Escape, Taurus, 2016 Fusion, 2018–2019 Taurus, 2019 Lincoln MKT, Fiesta, and 2020 Mustang vehicles, the rearview camera may display a distorted, intermittent, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse. A rearview camera that fails to properly display an image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a backover crash — particularly involving pedestrians, children, and pets in residential and parking lot environments. The recall affects multiple Ford and Lincoln model lines built across several model years that share the same rearview camera supplier and component family.
Dealers inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed January 2, 2026.

Taurus Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my Taurus has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford Taurus recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford Taurus recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my Taurus if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which Taurus model years have the most recalls?

Based on NHTSA data, the 2010–2019 sixth-generation Ford Taurus has multiple significant recalls including several specific to the Taurus Police Interceptor Sedan variant used by law enforcement.

The 2013 Taurus and 2013 Taurus Police Interceptor (along with 2013 Explorer, Explorer Police Utility, Flex, Fusion, MKS, MKT, MKZ) are covered by the 13S04 / 13S04-S1 fuel delivery module crack fire-risk recall. The 2013–2018 Taurus Police Interceptor and SHO Performance Pack (plus equivalent Flex and MKT variants) is covered by the 20S04 rear suspension toe link fracture recall — engineered for police patrol use, the toe links may fracture under high-stress fleet duty cycles.

The 2013–2015 Taurus + Police Interceptor with 3.5L EcoBoost is covered by the 16S31 fuel pump electric module (PEM) overheat recall. The 2010–2013 Taurus + 2011–2013 Lincoln MKS is covered by the 15S02 interior door handle return spring side-impact crash unlatch recall.

The 2017–2018 Taurus with mechanical key ignition is covered by the 18C02 FMVSS 114 key removal when transmission not in PARK rollaway recall. The 2017 Taurus + Police Interceptor Sedan + Explorer is covered by the steering gear heat shield fastener corrosion recall. The 2015–2019 Taurus is covered by the broader 25SA9 multi-model rearview camera recall.

The Ford Taurus was discontinued in North America after 2019, but Astro Ford continues to perform free safety recall service on all Taurus vehicles. Police fleet customers can request batch recall scheduling to minimize patrol fleet downtime. Always run your specific VIN at NHTSA.gov.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my Taurus's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.
