Fire Risk2013 Flex (and platform mates)Ford Safety Recall 13S04
Fuel Delivery Module May Crack — Fuel Leak Fire Risk
On certain 2013 Ford Flex vehicles (along with 2013 Explorer, Explorer Police Utility, Taurus, Taurus Police Interceptor, Fusion, Police Interceptor Sedan, and Lincoln MKS, MKT, and MKZ vehicles), the fuel delivery module may develop a crack, allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source (hot engine or exhaust components) may result in a fire. The recall covers the entire 2013 model year production of the Ford D4 platform vehicles. The Flex shares the same fuel delivery module assembly with the Taurus and Explorer, so all three vehicle lines were recalled together.
Dealers replace the fuel delivery module, free of charge. Recall began July 20, 2013.

Drive Power Loss + Rollaway2009–2012 Flex (and others)Ford Safety Recall 14S10
Halfshaft May Disengage from Linkshaft — Loss of Drive Power and Rollaway Risk
On certain 2009–2012 Ford Flex vehicles (along with 2008 and 2010–2012 Ford Taurus, 2008–2009 Ford Taurus X, 2008 Mercury Sable, and 2009 and 2011 Lincoln MKS vehicles), the halfshaft and linkshaft may not be properly retained and could become disengaged while driving. If disengagement occurs, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in "Park" — this is because the disengaged halfshaft/linkshaft means the parking pawl in the transmission no longer prevents wheel rotation. This dual hazard (drive power loss while driving + rollaway when parked) makes this one of the most consequential mechanical recalls of the early Flex platform.
Dealers inspect the vehicles to make sure the halfshaft is properly retained. If not, dealers replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. Recall began August 4, 2014.

Engine Stall Risk (3.5L EcoBoost)2013–2015 Flex (and platform mates)Ford Safety Recall 16S31
Fuel Pump Electric Module May Overheat — Engine Stall or No-Start
On certain 2013–2015 Ford Flex vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI EcoBoost engines (along with 2013–2015 Taurus, Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT, and 2013–2015 Taurus Police Interceptor), a component within the fuel pump electric module (PEM) may overheat, causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump. Loss of fuel pump electrical power will cause the engine to stall while driving or prevent the vehicle from starting, increasing the risk of a crash. The 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 is a high-output engine where consistent fuel pump electrical supply is critical for engine performance and reliability.
Dealers inspect the fuel PEM part number and replace the fuel PEM as necessary, free of charge. Recall began December 1, 2016.

Handling Risk — SHO Performance Pack2013–2018 Flex (Performance Pack)Ford Safety Recall 20S04
Rear Suspension Toe Links May Fracture — Sudden Change in Vehicle Handling
On certain 2013–2018 Ford Flex vehicles equipped with Police Interceptor or SHO Performance Pack equivalent rear suspension components (along with same-pack Lincoln MKT and Ford Taurus), the rear suspension toe links may fracture due to stress on the rear suspension. While the Flex itself was not sold as a Police Interceptor variant, the Limited EcoBoost trim shares the same heavy-duty rear suspension components as the Taurus SHO and Police Interceptor Sedan, putting it within the affected population. A fractured rear toe link will cause a sudden change in vehicle handling and increases the risk of a crash — particularly serious in a three-row crossover with seven occupants and significant rear suspension load.
Dealers replace the rear suspension toe links, free of charge. Owners notified March 3, 2020. Recall began October 28, 2020 once remedy parts became available.

Compliance — FMVSS 1352015 Flex + Taurus + MKS + MKT + 2015–2016 ExplorerFord Safety Recall 15C07
Parking Brake May Not Fully Engage (FMVSS 135 Non-Compliance)
On certain 2015 Ford Flex vehicles built May 4, 2015 to May 23, 2015 (along with 2015 Taurus, Lincoln MKS, 2015 Lincoln MKT built May 4-21, 2015, and 2015–2016 Explorer built May 4 to May 23, 2015), the parking brake may not fully engage when applied. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 135 "Light Vehicle Brake Systems." A parking brake that does not fully engage may not adequately hold the vehicle on a slope or grade, increasing the risk of vehicle rollaway after the driver exits.
Dealers test the operation of the parking brake system, and if necessary replace the parking brake control assembly, free of charge. Recall began September 4, 2015.

Fire Risk — Electrical Arc2019 Flex + Edge + MKX + MKT (2018–2019)Ford Safety Recall (Power Supply Cables)
Power Supply Cables at Starter and Alternator May Not Be Properly Secured — Electrical Arc Fire Risk
On certain 2018 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2019 Ford Flex, and 2018–2019 Lincoln MKT vehicles, the power supply cables at the starter and the alternator may not have been properly secured during assembly. Improperly secured power cables can rub against engine components, wear through the cable insulation, and cause an electrical arc — which can ignite surrounding materials and increase the risk of an underhood fire. This is particularly concerning because the late-production 2019 Flex was the final model year before discontinuation.
Dealers inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cables to verify that they are properly secured, correcting them as necessary, free of charge.

Visibility Risk2015–2019 Flex (and many others)Ford Safety Recall 25SA9 / 24S75
Rearview Camera May Display Distorted, Intermittent, or Blank Image
On certain 2015–2019 Ford Flex vehicles (along with 2015 Explorer, Lincoln MKT, Lincoln MKZ, 2015–2016 C-Max, Escape, Taurus, 2016 Fusion, 2018–2019 Taurus, 2019 Lincoln MKT, Fiesta, and 2020 Mustang), the rearview camera may display a distorted, intermittent, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse (Recall 25SA9). The earlier 24S75 recall covers 2019 Flex + Fiesta + Lincoln MKT specifically for similar rearview camera blank/distorted display issues. A rearview camera that fails to properly display an image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a backover crash — particularly involving pedestrians, children, and pets in residential and parking lot environments.
Dealers inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. 25SA9 owner notification letters mailed January 2, 2026; 24S75 interim notifications mailed January 22, 2025 with final remedy anticipated March 2026.

Flex Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my Flex has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford Flex recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford Flex recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my Flex if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which Flex model years have the most recalls?

Based on NHTSA data, the 2009–2019 Ford Flex has multiple significant recalls, most of which are shared with the Ford D4 platform mates Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT.

The 2009–2012 Flex (along with 2008/2010–2012 Taurus, 2008–2009 Taurus X, 2008 Mercury Sable, and 2009/2011 Lincoln MKS) is covered by the 14S10 halfshaft / linkshaft disengagement recall — loss of drive power while driving and rollaway risk when parked even with transmission in Park. The 2013 Flex (along with all 2013 D4 platform vehicles plus Fusion) is covered by the 13S04 fuel delivery module crack fire-risk recall.

The 2013–2015 Flex with 3.5L EcoBoost (along with Taurus, MKS, MKT, Police Interceptor) is covered by the 16S31 fuel pump electric module overheat / engine stall recall. The 2013–2018 Flex with SHO Performance Pack equivalent suspension is covered by the 20S04 rear suspension toe link fracture recall. The 2015 Flex + Taurus + MKS + MKT + 2015–2016 Explorer is covered by the 15C07 FMVSS 135 parking brake compliance recall.

The 2019 Flex + 2018 Edge + Lincoln MKX + 2018–2019 Lincoln MKT is covered by the power supply cable arc fire-risk recall. The 2015–2019 Flex is covered by the 25SA9 multi-model rearview camera recall, and 2019 Flex + Fiesta + MKT are covered by the related 24S75 rearview camera recall.

The Ford Flex was discontinued in North America after 2019, but Astro Ford continues to perform free safety recall service on all Flex vehicles. Always run your specific VIN at NHTSA.gov.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my Flex's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.

Does Astro Ford handle recall repairs?

Yes. As an authorized Ford dealership, Astro Ford performs all Ford safety recall repairs at no charge to you, using genuine Ford parts and factory-trained technicians. You do not need to have purchased your truck from us — any Ford dealer can complete your recall repair.

Call us or schedule your recall appointment online and mention your recall campaign number when booking. Our service team will verify your VIN and confirm parts availability before your visit.
