Engine Cup Plug Misaligned — Rapid Oil Leak, Stall, and Fire Risk (3.5L GTDI)
On certain 2024–2025 Ford Expedition and F-150 vehicles, plus 2024 Lincoln Navigator vehicles, all equipped with the 3.5L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) EcoBoost engine, the engine may have a misaligned engine cup plug. A misaligned cup plug can result in a rapid oil leak, which can cause an engine stall increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, an oil leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of an underhood fire.
Dealers inspect the engine cup plug alignment and replace the plug if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed May 22, 2025.

Electronic Brake Booster Module May Malfunction — Loss of Power Brake Assist
On certain 2025 Ford Expedition vehicles (along with 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Bronco, and Ranger), the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module may malfunction while driving or when the driver is utilizing an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) feature, resulting in a loss of power brake assist. An unexpected loss of power brake assist while driving can extend stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loss of power brake assist while ADAS features are engaged can result in the vehicle not braking as expected. Approximately 312,120 vehicles affected across the entire campaign.
Dealers replace the electronic brake booster, free of charge. Interim notification letters mailed December 15, 2025; final remedy letters anticipated January 2026. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on December 3, 2025.

Fire Risk — Park Outside2020 Expedition/NavigatorFord Safety Recall 22S36 / 22S48
Battery Junction Box Short Circuit — Engine Fire While Driving or Parked
On certain 2020 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles, a short circuit within the battery junction box can cause an engine fire while driving or while parked. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until the remedy has been performed. The recall covers two related Ford reference numbers (22S36 and 22S48) and was reissued with expanded scope in 2025.
Dealers inspect and replace the battery junction box as necessary and remove a ground wire. On models equipped with standard-duty radiator fan motors, dealers also install an auxiliary electrical box with a wire jumper. All repairs are free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed October 3, 2025. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 23, 2025.

Road Hazard2021–2022 Expedition + othersFord Safety Recall 25SB7
Moonroof Wind Deflector May Detach — Road Hazard
On certain 2021–2022 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles (along with 2021–2023 F-150 and 2022 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD), the moonroof wind deflector clips may be inadequately attached to the moonroof frame. Inadequate attachment can result in the wind deflector detaching from the vehicle while driving. A detached wind deflector can become a road hazard for following vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers inspect and repair the moonroof wind deflector as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed November 10, 2025.

Integrated Trailer Module May Lose Communication — Loss of Trailer Brakes and Lights
On certain 2022–2027 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles (along with 2021–2026 F-150, 2022–2026 F-250 through F-550 SD, 2024–2026 Ranger and Maverick, 2023–2026 F-600 SD, and 2026 E-Transit), the integrated trailer module (ITRM) may lose communication with the vehicle while towing a trailer. Loss of communication can disable trailer brake lights, turn signals, and trailer brake function, violating FMVSS 108 "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." For Expedition owners towing boats, RVs, or trailers, this directly affects safe trailer operation. Approximately 4.3 million vehicles affected across the entire campaign.
The integrated trailer module software is updated by a dealer or via over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed March 25, 2026.

Rearview Camera Image May Be Distorted, Flickering, or Blank in Reverse
On certain 2020–2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles (along with 2018–2022 Transit Connect, 2019–2020 MKZ, MKX, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019–2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020–2021 EcoSport, 2020–2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Lincoln Corsair, 2020–2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020–2024 Explorer, 2021–2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022–2024 Maverick), when the vehicle is put into reverse, the rearview camera may show a distorted, flickering, or blank image. The vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 111 "Rear Visibility." A frozen or missing rearview camera image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. Approximately 200,186 vehicles affected.
The rearview camera software is updated by a dealer or via over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge.

Rearview Camera May Show Blank or Distorted Image
On certain 2015–2017 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles (along with 2015–2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015–2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016–2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017–2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger), the rearview camera may display a blank or distorted image when the vehicle is in reverse, failing to comply with FMVSS 111 "Rear Visibility." A frozen or missing rearview camera image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. This is a separate campaign from NHTSA 25V442 and covers older Expedition model years.
Dealers inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge.

Expedition Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my Expedition has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford Expedition recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford Expedition recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my Expedition if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which Expedition model years have the most recalls?

Based on NHTSA data, recalls span both Expedition generations. The 2020 Expedition carries the most serious campaign: the battery junction box engine fire recall (Ford 22S36/22S48) which carries a Park Outside warning. The 2024–2025 Expedition with the 3.5L EcoBoost is covered by the engine cup plug oil leak and fire-risk recall (25S30) shared with F-150 and Lincoln Navigator.

The 2025 Expedition is also part of the electronic brake booster module recall (25SD4, ~312,120 vehicles, NHTSA 25V488) shared with Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Bronco, and Ranger. The 2021–2022 Expedition is covered by the moonroof wind deflector road-hazard recall (25SB7), and the 2022–2027 Expedition is covered by the integrated trailer module software recall (26C10, ~4.3 million vehicles total).

For older Expeditions, the 2015–2017 model years are covered by the rearview camera blank/distorted image recall (NHTSA 25V572) and the 2020–2021 Expedition is covered by a separate but similar rearview camera distortion recall (NHTSA 25V442, ~200,186 vehicles).

Many of these campaigns affect the Lincoln Navigator twin platform vehicles as well, given that Expedition and Navigator share the same body-on-frame chassis and 3.5L EcoBoost engine. A high recall count does not mean the SUV is unreliable — it means defects are being identified and remedied at no cost to owners.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my Expedition's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.

Does Astro Ford handle recall repairs?

Yes. As an authorized Ford dealership, Astro Ford performs all Ford safety recall repairs at no charge to you, using genuine Ford parts and factory-trained technicians. You do not need to have purchased your truck from us — any Ford dealer can complete your recall repair.
