Sun Visor and Headliner Wiring May Short Circuit — A-Pillar Fire Risk
On certain 2024–2026 Ford Ranger trucks built at the Michigan Assembly Plant from December 9, 2022 through December 28, 2025, a wiring harness near the sun visor or headliner may be pinched or routed incorrectly during assembly. Friction against sheet metal can strip wire insulation over time, causing an electrical short and a fire in the A-pillar between the windshield and front door. Approximately 140,201 trucks affected. Ford received four field reports of the issue between July and September 2025, including one vehicle fire and three trucks with scorching or smoke around the sun visor lamp circuit. NHTSA advises owners to park outside until the repair is completed. Warning signs include flickering or dark sun visor mirror lights and erratic overhead console behavior.
Dealers inspect the wiring routing, update the body control module software, and replace damaged harnesses as necessary, free of charge. Recall is being rolled out in phases starting with 2025 model-year trucks. Owner notification letters mailed week of May 31, with additional rounds for 2026 models in late June and 2024 models in late July.

Side Curtain Airbags May Tear During Deployment — Reduced Crash Protection
On certain 2024–2026 Ford Ranger trucks, the side curtain airbags may contact the B-pillar inner reinforcements and tear during deployment. Air bags that deploy improperly during a crash increase the risk of injury and ejection. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 226, "Ejection Mitigation." Approximately 100,900 vehicles affected. Issue was discovered during an NHTSA safety audit when the Ranger marginally passed its side impact crash test — a 15/32-inch tear in the curtain airbag was traced to a sharp edge on the inner reinforcement flange.
Dealers install protective shields between the curtain airbags and the B-pillar inner reinforcements, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed September 26, 2025.

Front Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Fastener Missing or Loose — Loss of Steering
On certain 2024–2025 Ford Ranger and Bronco vehicles, the front upper control arm ball joint fastener may be missing or improperly tightened during assembly. If the fastener is missing or works loose, the front upper control arm can detach from the steering knuckle assembly, causing partial loss of vehicle steering and directional control while driving. Drivers may notice steering vibration, clunking, or imprecise steering before the failure.
Dealers inspect the front upper control arm ball joint fastener and tighten or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed May 23, 2025.

Transmission Valve Body Machined Incorrectly — Unexpected Vehicle Movement
On certain 2024 Ranger trucks (along with 2024–2025 F-150 and Bronco, plus 2025 Mustang, Explorer, and Lincoln Aviator), the transmission main control valve body may have been machined incorrectly. The defect can cause reverse gear failure or unexpected forward movement when the transmission is in Reverse or Neutral. Unexpected vehicle movement increases the risk of a crash or a pedestrian injury.
Dealers replace the transmission main control valve body, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed May 5, 2025.

Engine Block Heater May Crack and Short Circuit — Fire Risk When Plugged In
On certain 2019–2024 Ford Ranger trucks (and various 2016–2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles including Explorer, Escape, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Maverick, Fusion, Lincoln MKC, and Lincoln Corsair), the engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak. When the block heater is plugged into household power, the coolant leak can cause an electrical short circuit and increase the risk of a fire. Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied.
Dealers replace the engine block heater, free of charge. Interim notification letters mailed December 3, 2025; final remedy letters anticipated February 2026.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve May Fail — Loss of Drive Power
On certain 2025 Ford Ranger trucks (along with 2025 Lincoln Nautilus, Mustang, Maverick, Explorer, Escape, Lincoln Corsair, Bronco Sport, and Bronco), the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve may fail, resulting in an unexpected loss of drive power while driving. An unexpected loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, particularly in highway traffic.
Remedy is currently under development. Interim notification letters mailed March 20, 2026; final remedy letters anticipated September 2026. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 4, 2026.

Windshield May Not Be Properly Bonded — Detachment Risk in a Crash
On certain 2025 Ford Ranger and Bronco vehicles, the windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle body during manufacturing. In the event of a crash, the windshield can detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of occupant injury and ejection. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 212, "Windshield Mounting."
Dealers remove and replace the windshield, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed October 20, 2025.

Ranger Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my Ranger has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford Ranger recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford Ranger recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my Ranger if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which Ranger model years have the most recalls?

Based on NHTSA data, the 2024–2026 Ford Ranger model years (the all-new T6.2 generation introduced in 2024) carry the highest concentration of recalls. The 2024–2026 Ranger has been hit with multiple campaigns, including the side curtain airbag tear (25C41, ~100,900 trucks, FMVSS 226), the sun visor wiring fire risk (140,201 trucks, Park Outside warning), and the front upper control arm ball joint loss-of-steering recall (25S45, shared with Bronco).

The 2024 Ranger is also covered by the transmission valve body recall (25S19) and the engine block heater fire-risk recall (25SA4, covering 2019–2024 Rangers and many other Ford and Lincoln models). The 2025 Ranger has additional recalls including the EGR valve loss-of-drive-power campaign (26S10), the windshield bonding compliance recall (25C52, FMVSS 212), and the electronic brake booster recall (25SD4).

Older 2004–2011 Rangers (Mazda B-Series-based platform) have a longer track record of completed recalls. The 2019–2023 T6 Rangers have been comparatively recall-light. A high recall count on the new 2024+ generation does not necessarily mean it is unreliable — launch-year platforms historically see more recalls as Ford works through early production issues.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my Ranger's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.
