Notable Edge Recalls to Know

Significant recalls affecting Ford Edge owners across both first-generation (2007–2014) and second-generation (2015–2024) platforms — centered on the long-running family of brake jounce hose recalls (front and rear) plus door striker bolt compliance, shifter cable bushing detachment, accessory protocol interface module software, and rearview camera image issues. Verified from NHTSA Part 573 reports, Ford safety bulletins, and reputable industry sources. Always check your specific VIN above; not all vehicles in a model year are affected.

High Risk2015–2018 Edge / 2016–2018 MKXNHTSA 25V544 / Ford 25S87
Rear Brake Jounce Hose May Rupture — Increased Stopping Distance
On approximately 499,129 Ford Edge (2015–2018) and Lincoln MKX (2016–2018) vehicles, the rear brake jounce hose may rupture and leak brake fluid. A brake fluid leak extends the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24-027 in October 2024 after reports of sudden, total loss of braking with the brake pedal dropping to the floor and brake fluid leaks near the rear tires, sometimes without prior warning lights. NHTSA identified 64 consumer complaints including two crashes related to brake loss. Ford reports 64 warranty claims, 3 field reports, 16 customer complaints, and estimates roughly 1 percent of recalled vehicles have defective hoses. The hoses were swapped to a different braid material (PVA to PET) by December 2017; vehicles built after that change are not affected. Drivers may notice longer brake pedal travel, harder pedal feel, and a red brake warning light.
Remedy is currently under development. Dealers will replace the brake jounce hoses and adjust hoses with no damage as needed, free of charge. Interim notification letters mailed September 8–12, 2025; final remedy letters anticipated April 2026.

High Risk2015–2018 Edge / 2016–2018 MKXNHTSA 20V469 / Ford 20S42
Front Brake Hose May Rupture — Increased Stopping Distance (Predecessor Recall)
On certain 2015–2018 Ford Edge and 2016–2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles, the front brake hoses may rupture prematurely due to cyclic fatigue in the internal reinforcement braid caused by tensile and torsional stresses during suspension and steering articulation. A ruptured front brake hose causes a brake fluid leak, lengthening stopping distance and increasing the risk of a crash. This 2020 campaign was the predecessor to the current rear-hose recall (25S87) and used the same root cause. The new front brake hoses installed under this recall use a revised braid material.
Dealers replaced the front brake hoses with new hoses using a revised braid material, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed May 13, 2021. If your Edge had this recall completed but you are now experiencing rear brake symptoms, the rear hoses are covered under separate recall 25S87 (above).

Compliance — FMVSS 2062018 Edge/MKXFord Safety Recall (Door Striker Bolts)
Door Striker Bolts Shorter Than Intended — Doors May Open in a Crash
On certain 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, the door striker bolts may be shorter than intended. Vehicles with shorter door striker bolts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." Non-compliant door striker bolts can result in the doors opening unexpectedly during a crash, increasing the risk of occupant ejection or injury.
Dealers inspect and replace the door striker bolts with the correct length, free of charge.

Rollaway Risk2013–2019 Edge/Escape/Fusion/C-Max/Transit ConnectFord Safety Recall (Shifter Cable Bushing)
Shifter Cable Bushing May Degrade or Detach — Selected Gear May Not Match Display
On certain 2013–2019 Ford Escape, 2013–2018 C-Max, 2013–2016 Fusion, 2013–2021 Transit Connect, and 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles, the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time or detach. If the bushing detaches, the gear position selected by the driver may not match what is shown on the gear shift indicator. The vehicle could move in a different direction than the driver expects, including the possibility of a vehicle rollaway after the driver believes the vehicle is in Park.
Dealers replace the shifter cable bushing and the shift knob, free of charge.

Compliance — FMVSS 1112021–2024 Edge + many othersFord Safety Recall 25S49
Rearview Camera Image May Delay, Freeze, or Not Display in Reverse
On certain 2021–2024 Ford Edge vehicles (along with 2021–2024 Bronco, F-150, 2022–2025 Escape, F-250 through F-600 SD, 2022–2024 Expedition, 2022–2025 Transit, 2021–2023 Mustang Mach-E, 2024 Ranger and Mustang, 2021–2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022–2024 Navigator, and 2023–2024 Corsair), a software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse. A frozen or missing rearview camera image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 111 "Rear Visibility."
The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) software is updated by a dealer or via over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. The campaign is being conducted in phases. Interim notification letters mailed June 26, 2025; final remedy letters mailed October 8, 2025.

Display Failure2021–2024 Edge / 2021–2026 BroncoFord Safety Recall 26S09
Accessory Protocol Interface Module May Overheat — Loss of Rearview Camera
On certain 2021–2024 Ford Edge and 2021–2026 Ford Bronco vehicles, the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) may overheat and shut down. An APIM shutdown can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended when the vehicle is in reverse. A rearview camera that fails to display an image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. This is a separate campaign from the related software-only recall 25S49 above — this campaign addresses an APIM overheating root cause.
The APIM software is updated by a dealer or via over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters anticipated to be mailed March 30, 2026. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 5, 2026.

Compliance — FMVSS 1112015–2018 Edge and many othersFord Safety Recall 25S89
Rearview Camera May Display Distorted, Inverted, or Blank Image
On certain 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles (along with 2015–2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015–2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, Transit Connect, 2016–2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017–2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger), the rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse. The vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 111 "Rear Visibility." A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V270.
Dealers inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Interim notification letters mailed September 29, 2025. Owner notification letters mailed in phases beginning January 13, 2026 and continuing into May 2026.

Edge Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my Edge has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford Edge recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford Edge recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my Edge if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which Edge model years have the most recalls?

Based on NHTSA data, the 2015–2018 second-generation Edge model years carry the heaviest recall load, primarily because of the long-running family of brake jounce hose recalls. The original 2020 front brake hose recall (Ford 20S42, NHTSA 20V469) was followed by a 2025 rear brake hose recall (Ford 25S87, NHTSA 25V544, ~499,129 vehicles, 2 crashes reported). Many 2018 Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles are also covered by a door striker bolt FMVSS 206 compliance recall.

The 2013–2019 Edge is covered by the shifter cable bushing recall shared with Escape, C-Max, Fusion, and Transit Connect, which can cause the gear selector to misalign with the actual selected gear. The 2015–2018 Edge is also part of the rearview camera distortion recall (25S89, NHTSA 25V270 expansion).

Current 2nd-generation 2021–2024 Edge owners are covered by the rearview camera APIM software recall (25S49) and a related APIM overheating recall (26S09, shared with 2021–2026 Bronco). The Edge was discontinued for the North American market after the 2024 model year, but recall service remains free at Ford and Lincoln dealers regardless of where the vehicle was purchased or how old it is.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my Edge's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.
