Notable E-Transit Recalls to Know

The Ford E-Transit launched for the 2022 model year, so its recall history is shorter than most Ford vehicles. Significant recalls cover left rear axle half shaft disengagement (the largest E-Transit recall to date with 32,160 vehicles), high-voltage battery tray side rail buckling on Chassis Cab models, busbar fastener washers missing on the 2026 high-voltage battery pack, and integrated trailer module software for 2026 models. Verified from NHTSA Part 573 reports, Ford safety bulletins, and reputable industry sources. Fleet operators are encouraged to schedule batch recall service to minimize commercial downtime.

Loss of Power / Rollaway2022–2025 E-TransitNHTSA 25V860 / Ford 25SD9
Left Rear Axle Half Shaft May Partially Disengage from Power Drive Unit
On approximately 32,160 Ford E-Transit vehicles built between February 26, 2021 and September 11, 2025 at the Kansas City Assembly Plant, the left rear axle half shaft may not have been fully inserted into the Primary Drive Unit (PDU) at the time of vehicle assembly due to insufficient insertion force and retention check force production controls. Drivers may observe a seal leak from the rear left-hand axle shaft caused by excessive relative movement between the seal and halfshaft. If the half shaft partially disengages from the PDU during operation, the vehicle can experience a loss of motive drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A half shaft that is not fully engaged to the PDU can also result in a vehicle rollaway if the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is not applied. Ford was aware of four warranty claims related to this problem, filed between August 13, 2024 and July 29, 2025, but no reports of accidents or injuries. Ford estimates approximately 5 percent of recalled vehicles actually have the defect.
The remedy is under development as of late 2025. Interim notification letters mailed December 22-26, 2025; final remedy letters anticipated March 23-27, 2026. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on December 15, 2025.

Fire Risk — Park Outside2024–2025 E-Transit Chassis CabNHTSA 25V238 / Ford 25S36
High-Voltage Battery Pack Tray Side Rails May Buckle and Crack — Water Ingress Fire Risk
On approximately 457 Ford E-Transit Chassis Cab vehicles built between April 18, 2024 and January 27, 2025 specified with the long-range (extended-range, 4P) battery, the aluminum tray side rails for the high-voltage battery pack may buckle and crack when exposed to repeated freezing and thawing cycles. Cracking can allow water ingress into the high-voltage battery pack. Water inside a high-voltage battery can cause an electrical short circuit, increasing the risk of fire. Ford could not rule out the possibility of a battery fire. Owners are advised to park outside and 50 feet away from structures and other vehicles until the recall repair is complete. The recall is specifically limited to the chassis cab body style, which is sold as a base for upfitter conversions (delivery boxes, service bodies, ambulance, RV).
Dealers inspect and replace or repair the battery assembly as necessary, including adding drainage holes to prevent water accumulation. Owner notification letters mailed May 5-9, 2025.

Fire Risk2026 E-TransitFord Safety Recall 26S05
High-Voltage Battery Pack Busbar Fasteners May Be Missing Washers
On approximately 98 Ford E-Transit vehicles built between October 14, 2025 and November 13, 2025, bolts inside the high-voltage battery pack busbar assembly may be missing washers. The supplier (Brugola Industriale USA) failed to detect the absence of washers during the high-voltage battery busbar assembly process. Missing washers can cause insufficient clamp load on the busbar, resulting in high electrical resistance or electrical arcing. Electrical arcing increases the risk of a fire. Additionally, a loss of drive power may occur, in which case the vehicle will display a warning message in the instrument cluster, may coast to a stop, and the 12-volt battery will sustain assisted braking and steering. The defect was identified by an assembly line operator on November 18, 2025; Ford issued a stop-ship order on December 2, 2025.
Dealers inspect the busbar fasteners for the presence of washers and repair the fasteners or replace the busbar with new fasteners that include washers, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed February 13, 2026. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on February 4, 2026.

Compliance — FMVSS 1082026 E-Transit and othersNHTSA 26V155 / Ford 26C10
Integrated Trailer Module May Lose Communication — Loss of Trailer Brakes and Lights
On certain 2026 Ford E-Transit vehicles equipped with the trailer tow package (along with 2021–2026 F-150, 2022–2026 F-250 through F-550 SD, 2024–2026 Ranger and Maverick, 2023–2026 F-600 SD, and 2022–2027 Lincoln Navigator and Expedition), the integrated trailer module (ITRM) may lose communication with the vehicle while towing a trailer. Loss of communication can disable trailer brake lights, turn signals, and trailer brake function. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Approximately 4.3 million vehicles affected across the entire campaign. Critical for E-Transit fleet operators using vans for towing equipment, trailers, or boats.
The integrated trailer module software is updated by a dealer or via over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters mailed March 17, 2026.

Cabin and Body System Recalls May Apply to Your E-Transit
The E-Transit shares much of its cabin, electronics, and body structure with the gas-engine Transit, both built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. As a result, certain Transit recalls covering cabin or body systems may apply to E-Transit vehicles depending on production date and configuration. Examples to verify by VIN include: 2022-2023 Transit Instrument Panel Cluster software (Ford 25C19, predecessor 22V415), 2022-2023 Transit HVAC defog/defrost remote climate control module (Ford 22S### family), 2022-2025 Transit rearview camera APIM software (Ford 25S49), and 2023-2024 Transit Trail electronic power assist steering ground pigtail (Ford 24S46). Always run your specific VIN at NHTSA.gov or in FordPass to confirm which recalls apply to your individual vehicle.

Fleet-Batch Recall Service for E-Transit Operators
For Gulf Coast businesses operating multiple E-Transit electric vans — delivery fleets, mobile service operations, food service, school district vehicles, last-mile delivery — coordinated batch recall service minimizes operational downtime. Astro Ford can run a batch VIN check across an entire fleet to identify all open recalls at once, schedule batch service appointments to keep vehicles in rotation, and provide pickup/delivery service for vehicles within reasonable distance. The 25SD9 half shaft recall and 25S36 chassis cab battery recall are particularly time-sensitive for fleet operators because of the loss-of-drive-power and fire risks involved. Many E-Transit recalls are remedied via over-the-air (OTA) software updates — one of the advantages of EV architecture — meaning fleet vans may not even need to come off the road.
Contact Astro Ford fleet service to schedule batch VIN checks and recall service. Pickup/delivery service may be available within the Gulf Coast region. OTA-eligible recalls do not require shop visits.

Industry Context2022–2026 E-TransitFord EV Recall Patterns
E-Transit Recall Patterns and Fleet Operator Considerations
As Ford's first dedicated electric commercial van and the best-selling electric van in the United States, the E-Transit shares some recall patterns common to other Ford EVs — primarily integrated park module (IPM) software, integrated trailer module (ITRM) communication, and high-voltage battery system fasteners. Unlike some Ford EV recalls (such as the 25C69 IPM rollaway recall affecting F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Maverick Hybrid), the E-Transit has not been included in IPM rollaway recalls to date. The 25SD9 half shaft recall is the largest E-Transit-specific campaign so far. Most E-Transit recalls have small affected populations (98 to 32,160 vehicles), reflecting the model's recent launch and lower production volumes compared to F-150 or Transit. Fleet operators benefit from running quarterly batch VIN checks at NHTSA.gov to catch new recalls as they are issued.

E-Transit Recall FAQs

Common questions about Ford F-150 recalls, your rights as an owner, and what to do next.

How do I check if my E-Transit has an open recall?

The fastest and most accurate method is to enter your 17-character VIN into the checker at the top of this page, which queries the NHTSA database in real time. You can also check directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls or Ford's own recall tool at ford.com/support/recalls-details.

Your VIN is found on the lower left corner of your windshield (visible from outside), on your driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration and insurance documents.

Are Ford E-Transit recall repairs free?

Yes — all safety, compliance, and emissions recalls are repaired at no cost to you. Parts and labor are covered by Ford through any authorized Ford dealership, regardless of whether you are the original owner or purchased the truck used.

If you previously paid out of pocket to fix an issue that was later tied to a recall, you may be eligible for a refund. Ask your Ford dealer or contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for reimbursement details.

Do Ford E-Transit recalls ever expire?

Safety, compliance, and emissions recalls do not expire. Ford is required by federal law to repair these defects free of charge regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage, and regardless of how many owners the truck has had.

Customer Satisfaction Programs (which are separate from safety recalls) may have time and mileage limitations. If you are unsure whether something is a safety recall or a CSP, ask your dealer or check NHTSA.gov — only official safety recalls appear in the NHTSA database.

Can I still drive my E-Transit if it has an open recall?

It depends on the severity. Most recalls allow you to continue driving while awaiting a repair appointment — the risk is present but not immediate. However, some recalls carry a "Do Not Drive" or "Park It Outside" warning from NHTSA, meaning the vehicle poses an immediate safety risk and should not be operated until repaired.

Always read the full recall description for your specific truck. If in doubt, contact Astro Ford or Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 for guidance specific to your VIN.

How will I be notified about a recall?

Ford is required by law to mail notification letters to all registered owners of affected vehicles once a recall is announced and VINs are confirmed. These letters identify the defect, the safety risk, and instructions for getting the repair done.

You can also proactively sign up for alerts through the free NHTSA SaferCar app or via Ford's recall notification sign-up. Because mailing lists depend on vehicle registration, used truck buyers may not always receive letters — this is why checking your VIN directly is important.

Which E-Transit model years have the most recalls?

Because the Ford E-Transit launched for the 2022 model year, its recall history is shorter than most Ford commercial vehicles. The most significant recall to date is the 2022–2025 E-Transit left rear axle half shaft disengagement recall (Ford 25SD9, NHTSA 25V860, ~32,160 vehicles, ~5% defect rate), which Ford attributes to insufficient insertion force during assembly at the Kansas City Plant.

The 2024–2025 E-Transit Chassis Cab (long-range battery only, ~457 vehicles) is covered by the 25S36 high-voltage battery pack tray side rail buckling recall (NHTSA 25V238) which carries fire risk and a Park Outside 50 feet from structures advisory.

The 2026 E-Transit has two recalls: 26S05 covers 98 vehicles built October 14 through November 13, 2025 with high-voltage battery busbar fasteners missing washers (fire and loss-of-power risk); and 26C10 (NHTSA 26V155) covers 2026 E-Transit vehicles equipped with the trailer tow package as part of a Ford-wide integrated trailer module recall affecting ~4.3 million vehicles.

Some Transit-shared cabin and body recalls may also apply to E-Transit vehicles depending on production date and configuration — always run your VIN at NHTSA.gov to confirm. Fleet operators with multiple E-Transit vans should run quarterly batch VIN checks. Most E-Transit recall remedies are software updates that can be performed via over-the-air (OTA) update, one of the advantages of EV architecture for fleet operators concerned about downtime.

What's the difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program?

A safety recall is a federally mandated action where Ford must fix a confirmed safety defect at no cost, with no expiration date. These are filed with NHTSA and appear in the official recall database.

A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) is a voluntary Ford initiative to address quality issues that do not rise to the level of a federal safety recall. CSPs often have expiration dates and mileage limits, and they do not appear on NHTSA.gov. Your Ford dealer can check your VIN for any open CSPs when you bring your truck in for service.

How long does a recall repair take at the dealership?

It varies widely by the nature of the recall. A simple software update — whether dealer-applied or delivered over the air — can often be completed in under an hour. More involved repairs like replacing a brake booster, rear axle assemblies, or engine components may require several hours or a parts order if inventory is limited.

When you schedule your recall appointment at Astro Ford, our service team can give you an estimated completion time based on the specific recall and parts availability.

Can a recall affect my E-Transit's resale value?

An open, unrepaired recall can negatively affect resale value, and in some states dealers are legally prohibited from selling a vehicle with an unrepaired safety recall. Getting recalls repaired promptly — and keeping documentation — actually protects your truck's value.

A completed recall has no negative impact on resale value, and in many cases demonstrates that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Always provide recall repair documentation when selling your F-150.
