On certain 2025–2026 Ford Maverick and Bronco Sport vehicles, the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) in the front passenger seat may fail to accurately distinguish between an adult and a child. The OCS determines whether and how the front passenger air bag should deploy in a crash. The defect causes vehicles to fail compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." Approximately 3,170 vehicles affected across both models. Affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on April 2, 2026.
Failure to correctly detect a passenger may result in the air bag not deploying as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Dealers will service or replace the Occupant Classification Sensor, free of charge.

NHTSA 25V-884000 · 2025–2026 · STRUCTURE:INTERIOR PANELS:DASHBOARD
On certain 2025–2026 Ford Maverick trucks, the occupant-facing passenger instrument panel door of the front passenger air bag (PAB) may separate from the airbag chute door when the air bag deploys. The defect was discovered during a Ford-internal test on October 15, 2025 and traced to insufficient weld adhesion between the instrument panel topper and the airbag chute door at a Tier-1 supplier facility. If the air bag deploys in a crash, the detached instrument panel cover can become a projectile and increase the risk of injury to occupants. Approximately 6,897 vehicles affected (Ford expects roughly 1 percent of trucks in the population have the defect).
An instrument panel cover separation can cause pieces of the cover to strike occupants, increasing the risk injury during a crash.
Dealers replace the instrument panel cover, free of charge. Recall reported December 18, 2025.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2025 Maverick vehicles. The air bag indicator light on the dashboard may be loose or dislodged, and not visible to occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
The air bag indicator light may fail to warn occupants of a deactivated air bag, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Dealers will install air bag indicator light retaining clips, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 24, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C17.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Maverick vehicles. The side-curtain air bags may not deploy properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."
Improper deployment of an air bag increases the risk of injury in a crash.
Dealers will replace the left and right side-curtain air bag modules with a new design, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 30, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C20.
