What Happened — and How It's Fixed
On approximately 457 Ford E-Transit Chassis Cab vehicles built between April 18, 2024 and January 27, 2025 specified with the long-range (extended-range, 4P) battery, the aluminum tray side rails for the high-voltage battery pack may buckle and crack when exposed to repeated freezing and thawing cycles. Cracking can allow water ingress into the high-voltage battery pack. Water inside a high-voltage battery can cause an electrical short circuit, increasing the risk of fire. Ford could not rule out the possibility of a battery fire. Owners are advised to park outside and 50 feet away from structures and other vehicles until the recall repair is complete. The recall is specifically limited to the chassis cab body style, which is sold as a base for upfitter conversions (delivery boxes, service bodies, ambulance, RV).

Dealers inspect and replace or repair the battery assembly as necessary, including adding drainage holes to prevent water accumulation. Owner notification letters mailed May 5-9, 2025.
