Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should I change the oil on a Transit Connect?
The 2nd-gen Transit Connect (2014+) with the 2.5L or 2.0L engine uses conventional or synthetic blend oil guided by the IOLM at 7,500 to 10,000-mile intervals. Commercial vehicles with high daily mileage and frequent stops should follow the severe-duty schedule. The 1st-gen 2.0L Duratec follows 5,000-mile intervals.
  • Does commercial use affect Transit Connect maintenance?
Yes. Commercial Transit Connects used for deliveries, trades, or shuttle service should follow Ford severe-duty maintenance schedule with shorter oil change, brake, and fluid service intervals. Daily stop-and-go driving, heavy cargo loads, and extended idling all increase wear on engine, brakes, and transmission.
  • When should the transmission fluid be changed?
The 6-speed automatic (2014-2018) and 8-speed automatic (2019+) are considered sealed under normal conditions. Commercial fleet vehicles should have fluid inspected at 60,000 miles. The 1st-gen 4-speed automatic should have fluid changed every 60,000 miles.
  • What are common Transit Connect maintenance items?
Beyond standard oil, filter, and brake service, common Transit Connect items include sliding door track lubrication (passenger wagon), rear cargo door hinge inspection, and tire rotation. Commercial cargo vans should have payload-area flooring and tie-down points inspected for wear.
