Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I change the oil on a Ford Fiesta? The Fiesta 1.6L Ti-VCT engine uses conventional or synthetic blend oil at 7,500 to 10,000-mile intervals per the IOLM. The Fiesta ST with the 1.6L EcoBoost requires full synthetic SAE 5W-20. The 1.0L EcoBoost three-cylinder also requires full synthetic.
- Does the Fiesta have PowerShift transmission issues like the Focus?Yes. The 2011-2016 Fiesta with the DPS6 PowerShift dual-clutch automatic experienced similar shuddering and clutch wear issues as the Focus. Ford extended warranty coverage on affected components. The Fiesta ST (manual only) and models with the 5-speed manual transmission are unaffected.
- What maintenance does a Fiesta ST need beyond standard service? The Fiesta ST requires full synthetic oil, benefits from premium fuel, and has sport-tuned suspension that may wear bushings and dampers faster under aggressive driving. The turbocharger should be allowed to cool down after spirited driving before shutting off the engine. Brake pads and rotors may wear faster with performance driving.
- When should the timing belt or chain be replaced on a Fiesta? The Fiesta 1.6L Ti-VCT engine uses a timing chain, not a belt, so there is no scheduled replacement. The timing chain is designed to last the life of the engine under normal conditions. The 1.0L and 1.6L EcoBoost engines also use timing chains with no scheduled replacement.
