Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I change the oil on a Ford Bronco? Both the 2.3L EcoBoost and 2.7L EcoBoost Bronco engines require full synthetic SAE 5W-30 oil. The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor determines optimal change intervals, typically 7,500 to 10,000 miles for normal driving. Off-road use, frequent mud or water fording, and dusty conditions will trigger earlier change alerts. After any water crossing above the wheel hubs, Ford recommends inspecting the oil for water contamination.
- Does the manual transmission Bronco have different maintenance? The 7-speed Getrag manual transmission (available only with the 2.3L engine) uses a different fluid than the 10-speed automatic and has its own service interval. Ford recommends manual transmission fluid inspection at 150,000 miles under normal conditions, but off-road use should prompt earlier inspection around 60,000 miles. The crawler gear (7th) is designed for low-speed rock crawling and does not affect standard maintenance.
- What extra maintenance does off-roading require on a Bronco? After off-road use, Ford recommends inspecting the undercarriage for damage, checking differential breather hoses for mud blockage, inspecting brake pads and rotors for embedded debris, and verifying that removable door and roof seals are clean and intact. Mud and water exposure accelerates wear on suspension bushings, ball joints, and wheel bearings. More frequent inspections of these components are recommended for frequent off-roaders.
- When should the differential fluid be changed on a Bronco?Ford recommends inspecting front and rear differential fluid at 150,000 miles under normal conditions. The Dana 44 front and rear axles on Sasquatch and Raptor models should have fluid inspected at 60,000 miles if used for frequent off-roading, towing, or water fording. The front differential on 4x4 models is especially important to monitor.
